With hits like Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock you, it’s no surprise that Queen are considered one of the greatest bands of all time.

Despite the fact that the band was formed in the 70s and lost a favorite band member, the rock band continues to perform to this day.

Who is in Queen?

Founded in London in 1970, Queen consists of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon.

Their earliest work was influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but gradually the band ventured into more traditional pop rock.

Prior to forming Queen, Brian and Roger played together in the band Smile.

Freddie was a fan of Smile and eventually joined the band and suggested the name Queen and the rest is history.

Zanzibar native Freddy, whose real name is Farrokh Bulsara, moved to England in 1964.

At around age 25, he had just graduated from art college when he started performing with Queen.

He was well known for his incredible vocal range and flamboyant stage presence.

In the early days of Queen, he was engaged to Mary Austin, but they broke up when he came out as gay, but continued to be best friends until his d*ath.

The singer was never married, but considered Mary to be his “only true love.”

Unfortunately, Freddie died on November 24, 1991 from an AIDS-related illness – he was only 45 years old.

Brian May is often cited as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and his contributions to Queen earned him a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Roker was born July 19, 1947 and was appointed CBE in 2005 for services to music and philanthropy.

Brian plays the Red Special guitar that he built himself when he was 16 years old.

He did this because electric guitars were still relatively new at the time.

Outside of music, Brian also holds a PhD in astrophysics and is married to former EastEnders star Anita Dobson.

Born July 26, 1949, Roger Taylor still plays drums for Queen with Brian on guitar.

As a songwriter, the drummer has written songs for Queen’s albums, writing at least one track on each album and often providing lead vocals on his own compositions.

Roger was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Outside of Queen, he also released five solo albums from 1981 to 2013.

John Deacon was recruited by Queen in February 1971, before the band released their debut album in 1973.

During his time with the band, he wrote several songs for the band, including the top 10 hit You’re My Best Friend, Another One Bites the Dust, and I Want to Break Free.

John decided to retire in 1997 and left Queen for good.

Who replaced Freddie Mercury?

Adam Lambert is the lead singer of Queen whenever they tour, as they have never officially “replaced” Freddie as a show of respect.

Before starting work, he took his big break in 2009 when he placed second on American Idol.

Queen first performed alongside Adam on American Idol, and since 2011 the rock legends and singers have collaborated as Queen + Adam Lambert.

Initially, the supergroup made only occasional appearances, such as a special show at the 2011 MTV Europe Awards and three concerts in London in 2012.

However, they embarked on a successful 66-show world tour in 2014, and he continues to perform with them to this day.

Guitarist Brian May praised the “amazing range and power” of the singing star’s voice, while drummer Roger Taylor said he had “the best range I’ve ever heard”.
