Confidence is an extremely important trait in life, especially if you’re an actor. However, it is intriguing when confidence, or lack thereof, influences an actor’s decisions. This seems to have happened to Anya Chalotra, Yennefer of Vengerberg in Netflix’s The Witcher. In an interview with ColliderChalotra admitted that she did not expect to get the role of beautiful magic.
“I spoke to my agent and said I’m not the person they want,” she said, explaining that the character’s description was “men want her, women want to be her, she’s gorgeous.” [I’m] Absolutely not, I won’t get the part.” But this lack of expectations seems to have helped her. “Because I didn’t have any expectations of myself, I did well in the audition.” She added: “I would say that’s what I took this witcher with me to other auditions.”
Not only did Chalotra not have any expectations, she also didn’t know much about the character – and that also seemed useful. “I went into this blindly,” she said. Fashion. “And I think that helped me, because if I had known that Yennefer is such an iconic character and has a huge fan base, I would have put too much thought into every choice I made in that audition room.” She also admitted, “Every time I auditioned [three times]I have become more thirsty for the role.” Now Chalotra realizes how much she has in common with Yennefer, and told Diana Mendes that “her fearlessness” is Yennefer’s character trait that Chalotra relates to most.
