The Witcher’s Anya Chalotra Gained Her Confidence As Yennefer

Yennefer goes through a lot in the first season of The Witcher. Not only does she struggle with her feelings of worthlessness from a particularly traumatic upbringing, she must also confront her inability to have children of her own and work to understand how her trauma has turned her ability to deal with something toxic. Over the course of the season, she also undergoes an extreme physical transformation through magic to transform herself into the person she presents herself as, an undeniably beautiful and desirable woman.

Yennefer uses her new body and sexuality to manipulate others and get her way. The level of confidence she displays when she carries herself with grace and power is not just difficult for an actor; it is also a feeling that many people may not be familiar with at all.

During an interview with Mariska Fernandez, Chalotra talked about how playing Yennefer taught her to be more confident. “I’ve definitely learned to be confident in my body because Yennefer is so confident in her body and I had to play that role,” Chalotra revealed when asked what she learned while developing the character of Yennefer. “I had to really take responsibility for how I use my body and the way I stood and walked really affected that. I had to really believe in myself.”
