In Avengers: Endgame, Scott Lang, after spending five years in the Quantum Realm, discovers a world that is very different from the one he left. A big part of that variation is that his daughter Cassie has now grown into a teenager, played by Emma Fuhrmann. After Lang’s return, the two have a tearful reunion, while this old incarnation of Cassie is also briefly seen in the final scenes of Avengers: Endgame. Considering how important Cassie Lang was to the first two Ant-Man films, it only made sense that future solo releases of this superhero would include this new version of the character.
When the full cast of the next Ant-Man movie was announced, it was revealed that the older Cassie Lang would be involved in the process, but that the character would be played by a different performer: Kathryn Newton. The news surprised many, including Emma Fuhrmann, who accepted Twitter to express disappointment with the development, but also gratitude for being in Avengers: Endgame. Given how the MCU has returned to actors ranging from Tim Blake Nelson to Jim Rush playing minor characters even after many years away from the franchise, it’s certainly strange that Quantum Mania recast Cassie Lang, especially so soon after Fuhrmann’s prominent role in Endgame.
