The Grinch is ready to haunt your dreams in a terrifying ‘Sneaky’ trailer

Sneaky takes the original story and turns it completely on its head. Remember how the Grinch stole Christmas from a little girl named Cindy Who? Well, things got much darker in this version of the tale because the Grinch also killed her parents on that cold night of Christmas Eve.

Now Cindy You-Know-Who, as she calls her in the trailer, returns to her hometown of Newville to exact revenge on the one the townspeople call “Mean”. The trailer is littered with references to the original story, some of which are pretty obvious like the character Cindy, and others are a bit more clever, like the change of Whoville’s name to Newville. And while this notion of the Grinch is actually a bit like Jim Carrey’s version from the 2000 film The Grinch Stole Christmas, there’s probably no redemption for the iconic Dr. Seuss character.

An interesting note about the film is that it was co-written with Flip Kobler, who is best known as the author of Disney animated sequels such as The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and Pocahontas 2: Journey to the New World, two films that are almost exactly the opposite of Vile. And while this movie may not be for everyone, it’s a great way to enjoy a wildly bloody Christmas classic right before the holidays. Sneaky will have a limited release in theaters on Thursday, December 15th.
