Queen Elizabeth’s absolutely brutal disdain for her grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after Megxit came to light.
The couple detailed the incident on the fifth episode of their Netflix series Harry & Meghan, which aired globally on Thursday night.
It came shortly after the couple announced they were leaving the royal family, and it was the first time they truly appreciated the scope of what they had done.
“Before we left, I spoke to my grandmother and told her that I would like to go out and see you,” said Harry. “She knew that it was hard for us, we talked about it many times.
“She told me that she had no plans for the week. And she said, “Well, why don’t you go out and have some tea when you stay the night?”
But as Harry and Meghan were boarding their plane from Vancouver to Heathrow, they got the message “urgent, urgent”.
“This message reaches H. saying that you are not allowed to meet with Her Majesty,” Meghan recalls.
“You can’t go to her, she’s busy. She has plans for the whole week.
Harry was shocked.
“It was sent to me contrary to what she told me,” he said. “When I returned to the UK, I called her and said: “Yes, I did not know that I had plans, but they are. I’ve been busy all week.”
The couple could not believe what they heard.
“I was thrilled,” Megan said. “And I remember looking at each other and thinking, ‘Oh my God, this is when the family and the family business are in direct competition.
“Because they prevent you from seeing the Queen. But in fact, what they are doing is preventing the grandson from seeing his grandmother.”
In the fourth episode, the couple pinpointed the moment when everything changed for her in the royal family.
“I think Australia was a real turning point,” said a friend. “Because they were so popular, so popular with the public.
“And the palace was incredibly threatened.”
Shortly thereafter, Harry remembered an evening with the entire royal family at Buckingham Palace, including the Queen.
But the next day, it was Meghan on the front pages, not the monarch or Kate.
“That’s when the hammer fell,” said Harry.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God!’” Meghan recalls when she saw the front page.
“My mom felt the same way,” said Harry. “It was almost like from a wedding and everything I saw they were setting it up.
“And then there was a shift and they started demolishing it. I’m sorry. At that time we laughed too, because it was so ridiculous.
“But an att*ck can be ridiculous, but it’s still an att*ck, and this dripping supply of constant att*cks on someone who is an individual or a real person has an impact.”
In the opening seconds of episode four, she reveals how the family reacted to being joined by a black American actress who she said never fit in.
“There was a moment when our personal secretary said to me: [this family] it’s like a perfectly swimming fish,” Meghan said.
“Then there is this alien organism. And they’re like, “What is this? What is he doing here? he doesn’t look like us, he doesn’t move like we do, get him away from us.”
“And she just explained that you know, they will soon see that it is stronger, faster, even better with this organism in the composition. At first, it will be difficult for them to adjust to this new one. But then it will be amazing.
“And I really hoped it was true.”
Meghan also spoke about her first official meeting with the Queen, but deliberately admired the recently deceased monarch.
“My first official engagement to Her Majesty took place very early after we got married,” she said.
“We boarded the royal train together. We had breakfast that morning and I had a great time with her.
“I treated her like my husband’s grandmother. When we got into the car between engagements, she had a blanket and she pulled it over my lap and we sit there in the car with this blanket my thought I recognize and respect and see that you are a queen. But at this point, I’m so grateful to have a grandma figure because it’s like a family.
“It was a really good day.”
