The Curse of Dog, a bounty hunter like the show, is plagued by gruesome d*aths, ominous allegations of abuse and a shocking m*rder conviction

With his steely chasing criminals and bulging muscles, Headhunter Dog is the epitome of the American tough guy.

But the TV personality — real name Dwayne Chapman — has had quite a few tragedies, including horrific abuse from his father, the d*ath of his two children, and the love of his life.

Dog was hit with a new heartache this week when co-star and close friend David Robinson passed away suddenly at the age of 50.

David, who was described as “very healthy” by wife Brooke, collapsed at home during a phone call on Wednesday, though no official cause of d*ath was announced.

In a statement to TMZ, Dog said he was “shocked and saddened by the sudden loss.”

Dog was one of four children raised by his priest mother and US Army officer father in Denver, Colorado.

But his father regularly beat him with a wooden spatula, who also beat him in boxing matches to “harden him up”.

In his 2007 book You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide, he wrote: “Because of my religious upbringing, I thought my father was punishing me for being a terrible sinner.

“Until recently, I never realized that none of his atrocities were my fault. Just the thought of the abuse I experienced can make me cry.

“I was expected to take it like a man. But I was not a man. I was a little boy looking for the love and approval of my father. I desperately needed his affection so I ignored the pain,” he wrote.

At 13, he left school and joined the Disciples motorcycle gang, spending the next few years in and out of prison for crimes including armed robbery.

“I spent the first twenty-three years of my life on the wrong side of the law,” he later wrote. “The only thing I knew about the law was a thousand ways to break it.”

As a teenager, he had a child with Debbie White, who hid her pregnancy from him and later committed suic*de.

Their son, Christopher, was adopted and only met his father after Debbie’s mom told him he had a grown son.

At age 19, Dog married his first wife, LaFonda Honeycutt, and the couple had two sons, Duane Lee and Leland.

Conviction for m*rder

In 1976, Dog was found guilty of murder and sentenced to five years in prison.

To date, Dog has tracked down 6,000 criminals while working as a sponsor, a person who tracks down wanted criminals for a fee.

But in 1976, it was he who ended up behind bars, convicted of m*rder.

The 23-year-old was in the car when his friend accidentally shot and killed an alleged drug dealer in a fight over a cannabis deal.

Under Texas law, anyone indirectly involved in a m*rder can also be charged.

Dog was found guilty of first-degree m*rder and sentenced to five years in a Texas state prison, and a year later LaFonda divorced him and married his best friend.

As a result of his conviction, he is banned from owning firearms and uses a stun gun to hunt bounty instead.

In 2012, he was banned from entering the UK where he was scheduled to appear as a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother due to his criminal record.

While serving time in prison, Dog received praise for capturing a prisoner who was trying to escape.

The incident convinced him to consider a career as a bounty hunter or “slave”.

He began to work on his own, interviewing witnesses to track down the most wanted criminals by the police and then claim a reward for their transfer.

Shortly after he started his new career, he met Anna Tegnell and had three more children.

One died shortly after birth, and the other two, Wesley and JR, were raised by their mother.

The marriage was short-lived and in 1982 Dog married Lissa Britain and had three more children, Barbara, Tucker and Lissa.

The youngest, “Baby Lissa,” later wrote a book in which she claimed her father was a drug addict and her mother an alcoholic.

While still married, Dog met Beth, a blonde b*mbshell with 38F breasts, at the local police station, where she was arrested for shoplifting, and the couple began an affair.

The relationship with Beth was turbulent from the start, and Lissa, who lived with her father, claims she hated their fights so much that she took desperate steps to leave after making up a terrible accusation.

“I [falsely] accused my father of raping me when I was 11,” admits Lissa.

“It was a terrible life that I never wanted to go back to, living with him and Beth, fighting and dr*gs.

“When I came to my mother, although she was drinking, it was much calmer. I was ready for anything, just not to return.

Marriage on the rise

After their romance faltered, Dog was devastated in 1991 when Beth married his childhood best friend Keith Barmore and had a daughter, Cecily.

“He was a thief with a h*roin addiction,” Dog later wrote. “My heart almost broke when I heard that Beth was dating him.

“When I heard that they were married, I became physically ill. … Friends told me that he insulted her with something terrible.”

Dog married Toni Marie in 1992 but says he was “forced” to marry her despite knowing she was a “mistake”.

But later, Beth admitted that the couple continued to meet, despite new marriages.

Beth and Dog eventually divorced their partners and got back together in 1995, and she began working with him, becoming Colorado’s youngest licensed bail bondsman at 29.

To strengthen the bond, the couple had two more children, Bonnie and Harry, and Dog adopted Cecily as his own.

Dog and Beth settled in Hawaii and got engaged. Then, in 2004, he launched his own TV show, Dog The Bounty Hunter.

But the couple had to endure a new tragedy.

Beth’s beloved father and “best friend” Harry Smith died two months before he was due to walk her down the aisle in 2006, leaving her heartbroken.

And the night before his dream wedding in Hawaii, Dog received the devastating news that 23-year-old daughter Barbara had died in a car accident while in a stolen SUV in Alaska.

Incredibly, he went through with the wedding as planned, breaking the terrible news to his friends and family at the reception.

After Barbara’s d*ath, her son began to live with his biological father, Travis Mimms.

But in October 2011, Dog and Beth stepped in and took temporary custody after they heard a tape of Travis allegedly physically abusing a nine-year-old.

Possibly reminiscing about his own childhood, Dog said, “Hearing the audio recording of my grandson being abused was torture.”

The tragic d*ath of Beth

Dog’s bad luck continued in September 2017 when Beth was diagnosed with stage 2 throat c*ncer.

In the A&E special “Dog and Beth: The Battle of Their Lives,” they told viewers that she no longer has the disease after the c*ncer was removed.

But in 2018, the disease returned. Dog often took to social media to update fans on his wife’s treatment and said she was struggling to return to good health.

In an interview with the Star Advertiser, Beth said, “I’m a fighter, I’m a strong fighter – a survivor and I will fight this as hard as he fights me.”

In April 2019, Dog revealed that she had been hospitalized and asked for prayers for her two months later on June 23.

But on June 26, Beth tragically died in hospital after being put into an induced coma at the Royal Medical Center in Honolulu.

In an emotional tweet, Dog wrote, “It’s 5:32 am in Hawaii, which is the time she’ll wake up to go camping on Mount Coco Head. Just today, she climbed the stairs to heaven.

“We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side.”

In 2021, two years after Beth’s d*ath, Dog found love again and tied the knot for the sixth time with Francie Fran, who also lost her husband Bod to c*ncer just six months before Beth.

The day before the wedding, the couple told ET that they had written their own vows that would honor their deceased spouses.
