When Sharon Stone took on the role of Ginger McKenna in Martin Scorsese’s 1995 gangster film Casino, she was already a Hollywood femme fatale thanks to her career in Basic Instinct. But the actress put everything on the line for the Scorsese film, which earned her her only Oscar nomination.
“I almost physically killed myself working on ‘Casino,'” Stone told Prestige Magazine (via female first). “We filmed the d*ath scene on the last day because Scorsese knew that I wanted to completely lose weight and get rid of it. In the last week I didn’t eat, I didn’t do anything, I just made myself full of falling apart so that I could get thin, thin, thin, thin and good for nothing. I’ve lost so much weight.”
In addition to pushing malnutrition to the limit, the actress recently revealed that high fashion at the Casino was no less of a hassle. “That dress weighed about 35 pounds,” Stone said, referring to one of the toughest outfits in the film (via Yahoo!), “and those metallic sequins were a nightmare, they cut, they cut into my armpits and my neck. This dress was a misery!”
