Harry explained that the couple were concerned that the stress in their lives might prevent them from getting pregnant.
“The fee began to reflect on Meg; she has lost a lot of weight over the past year, despite all the shepherd’s pies,” the royal wrote.
“I’m eating more than ever,” she reported, but her weight continued to drop.
The Duke said that his friends had recommended an Ayurvedic doctor – a qualified medical practitioner who followed the principles of ancient Indian medicine – who helped them conceive.
According to Harry, the doctor confirmed the couple’s fears that Meghan’s weight loss “could be a barrier to conception.”
“As I understood it, Ayurvedic medicine divided people into categories,” he explained.
“I don’t remember what category this doctor categorized Meg in, but she confirmed our suspicion that Meg’s weight loss might be a barrier to conception.
“gain five pounds [2.2kg]the doctor promised, and you’ll get pregnant.”
Harry went on to say that the Duchess of Sussex had indeed put on the weight recommended by the doctor.
Recalling the moment the couple found out they were expecting, the prince wrote: “We bought two home pregnancy tests, one just in case, and she took them both to the bathroom in Knott Cott.
“I lay on our bed and while waiting for her to come out… fell asleep. When I woke up, she was next to me. What happened? It … ? She said she didn’t look. She was waiting for me.
“The sticks were on the nightstand. I only kept a few things there, including the blue box with my mom’s hair.
“Right,” I thought, “good. Let’s see what mom can do in this situation. I reached for the sticks, looked into their windows. Blue. Bright, bright blue. Both of them.”
Harry explained that a blue result means Meghan is pregnant.
“Wow. Okay. Well then. We hugged, kissed. I put the chopsticks back on the nightstand. I thought, ‘Thanks Mom.’
In May 2019, the Sussexes had a son, Archie.
In his new memoir, Harry also detailed that he and his wife shared the news of their first pregnancy at Princess Eugenie’s 2018 wedding.
The couple told this to his father King Charles at his Windsor office, who was delighted with the news.
Harry said that his father smiled widely when he found out he was going to be a grandfather for the fourth time.
He then broke the news to his brother Prince William, who told his wife, Princess Kate, about it.
Describing his sister-in-law’s reaction, Harry wrote: “She also smiled broadly and congratulated heartily. They both reacted exactly as I hoped – as I wanted.
While the Sussexes didn’t announce their news until days later, Princess Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson was reportedly “furious” that the couple had “upstaged” the bride.
In their book Royals at warauthors Andy Tillett and Dylan Howard wrote: “It was a huge social gaffe, even if you weren’t a member of the royal family, stealing the attention of Eugenie, who was furious, as was her mother Sarah.”
