In his new memoir, Spare, which comes out Tuesday, January 10, The Duke of Sussex, 38, details a particularly horrific fight with the Prince of Wales, 40, as their relationship escalated after his marriage to Meghan, 39, in May 2018.
The row began when William allegedly called the California native “difficult” and “rude” at the Archewell co-founder’s London home in 2019, according to Harry. Harry claims that his brother “grabbed” him by the collar and broke the necklace before he “knocked me to the floor”.
CIO of BetterUp, who has son Archie, 3, and daughter Lilibet, 19 months, with Fringe the actress, goes on to say that William asked him not to tell Meghan about the fight, which caused him to call his therapist, revealing that while the two had many arguments throughout their lives, this particular confrontation “felt different” .
An excerpt from Harry’s book has made headlines as he prepares for a series of interviews about the memoir. In a clip released earlier this week for his upcoming interview with ITV, Harry has revealed that he hopes to mend differences between himself and the royal family.
“I wish my father [King Charles III] back, I would like to return my brother, – said the prince, for the first time looking at ITV interview, which will air on Sunday, January 8. “They showed absolutely no willingness to reconcile.”
Harry also spoke to Anderson Cooper for 60 minutes broadcast, which will air in the US on the same day. In a video released on Monday, January 2, a former military pilot told 55-year-old Cooper: why he felt compelled to speak publicly about life in the royal family after he and Meghan stepped down from their senior positions in March 2020.
“Every time I tried [speak] privately there were briefings, leaks and planting stories against me and my wife,” he said, looking at the sit-in for the first time. “You know, the family motto is ‘Never complain, never explain’, but that’s just a motto. … They will feed or talk to the correspondent. And this correspondent will literally spoon-feed information and write history.”
Harry continued, “So when we’ve been told for the past six years, ‘We can’t make a statement to protect you.’ But you do it for other family members… There comes a point when silence becomes betrayal.”
Later in the clip, Cooper asked Harry if he sees the day he returns to being a “permanent” member of the royal family, to which the RMA graduate replied, “No.”
Spare will be released on Tuesday, January 10th. Palace has not yet commented on the book publicly and has declined to respond to claims made in the recent Harry and Meghan Netflix documentary series. Harry and Megan.
