Netflix unveils raft of Arab films & series slated for 2023 release – KristenBellTattoos.com

Netflix has previewed a selection of upcoming movies and shows aimed at the Arab world and from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Jordan.

The global platform has been steadily gaining ground in the Middle East and North Africa since 2015, despite stiff competition from local players like MBC’s Shahid VIP and Starzplay.

Slate’s announcement comes just a month after a group of Gulf states threatened Netflix with legal action if the platform did not remove content that contradicted Islamic values.

Netflix has not commented on Gulf threats and appears unwavering in its push for content targeting the region and the Arab world.

“Netflix will continue to expand its investment in the region, bringing authentic stories and talent from the Arab world to the forefront of the global entertainment industry,” the platform said.

New productions slated to begin in 2023 include a feature in Saudi Arabia. Alkhallat+a satirical suspense film based on the hit online show Confusedwhich was first released in 2017 and has received over 1.5 billion views on YouTube and social media.

The feature is one of the first productions to land in the pipeline under an eight-picture deal with Saudi Arabian studio Telfaz11 signed in November 2020.

Netflix said, “The film will feature four thrilling comeback stories of social betrayal and trickery in four unlikely places, bringing the beloved Saudi show to life.”

Fahad Alammari directed an ensemble cast consisting of stand-up comedian Fahad Al-Batiri, actor Sohaib Godes and Ismail Al-Hassan, known for his acting. Sun of Gnosis; and influencer and actor Ziad Al Murri.

Netflix also announced another Telfaz11 feature, Matchmaker Director Abdul Mohsen Al Dhabban, whose debut film Last visit (2019) Played in Karlovy Vary and Marrakech.

Billed as a psychological thriller with a supernatural slant, the film is set against the backdrop of the rocky desert landscape of World Heritage Site Alola. The cast includes Hossam Alharthi, Reem Al Habib, Noor Al Khadra.

The slate also included an eight-episode Arabic docu-soap. Dubai Billing, Which is starting on October 27 globally.

The show follows the lives of 10 self-proclaimed rich people in Dubai, including Australian radio presenter Chris Feid and his wife Briana Ramirez, Saudi TV host and actress Lujin Imran, as well as Emirati DJ Marwan Al Awadi and his wife Dania. Muhammad is included.

Netflix also unveiled its first Kuwaiti production. Change justice. Set in Kuwait in 1988, the drama revolves around two women who enter the boys’ club of the Kuwait Stock Exchange on the eve of Saddam Hussein’s invasion of the country.

The drama was created and written by popular TV presenter, actress and activist Nadia Ahmed with Anne and Adam Sobel, and is directed by Egyptian director Karim Elshinawi and Kuwaiti filmmaker Jassim Al Mahna.

The cast includes popular local actors Rawan Mehdi, Mona Hussain, Hussain Al Mahdi, Mohammad Mansoor, Faisal Al Amiri, Jassim Al Nabhan, Maryam Saleh, Asma Tawfiq and Abdullah Bahman.

The slate also includes a second season of the animated series. Masmere Countya youth-centric show that chronicles the rapidly changing face of Saudi Arabia and tackles previously taboo subjects with humor.

It is the first production to come out of a five-year exclusive deal between Saudi animation studio Merkot and Netflix.

These new shows are in the context of Saudi director Hina Al-Omir’s psychological thriller. The whispera Jordanian high school drama Al-Rawi School for GirlsAnd Search for Olastarring Tunisian-Egyptian star Hand Sabri as a newly divorced single mother as she embarks on a journey of personal discovery.

Popular non-fiction films in the region include Arabic unscripted reality shows. fastest, and archeology documentary, Secrets of the Tomb of Saqqara It was watched by 22 million households in its first week of launch
