Harry and Meghan will bring another documentary series to Netflix.
Six part documentary series about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Harry and Megan The final three episodes were released last Thursday, and the royals are already gearing up for the next one.
Live to lead will be a seven-part Netflix series featuring interviews with prominent leaders including New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Greta Thunberg, Gloria Steinem, social justice lawyer Brian Stevenson and others.
The series was created to allow these leaders to “share messages of courage, compassion, humility, hope and generosity”.
On Monday, Netflix released a trailer for the series with the voices of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in most of the video.
In the trailer, Prince Harry said the series was “inspired by Nelson Mandela”.
“Over the past few decades, we have seen the proliferation of destructive leaders who, for example, control power by closing borders, spreading misinformation and fueling fear of people who are considered “different”. We feel there is a leadership crisis across the world at many social levels,” the Nelson Mandela Foundation said in a statement.
The Foundation hopes the series will “inspire a new generation of leaders.”
“With the world in the state it is in, trying to recover from a global pandemic, with populism and disinformation on the rise, the need for effective leadership is critical,” said Sello Khatang, executive director of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
“Live to lead was created to inspire the best leaders, those who strive to end poverty and inequality and demonstrate a leading role in creating the just society of Nelson Mandela’s dream.”
Prince Harry and Markle will executive produce the series, which is produced by Blackwell & Ruth in association with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Sussexes’ production company Archewell and Cinetic Media.
Jeff Blackwell said the series came to life when he worked on a Mandela book with Ruth Hobday back in 2018.
“As we worked through Mandela’s 27 years of personal correspondence, reflecting on his bold and selfless commitment to the well-being of others, we simultaneously encountered a news cycle relentlessly focused on some international politicians who are behaving in exactly the opposite way – shamelessly pursuing their own goals. self-interest, using divisive and disinformation tactics to serve the government, not the people,” Blackwell said in a statement.
The contrast led Blackwell to want to tell stories about those who are “characterized by moral courage, conviction in their ideals and values, and their priority over others.”
Blackwell approached the Nelson Mandela Foundation and together they sought out people to interview.
“The experience of interviewing them and sharing their stories has been enriching for all of us. Through their example, these leaders remind us of our own capacity for leadership and the best part of our humanity at a time when the world needs real leaders more than ever,” the statement said.
The new documentary series comes on the heels of Prince Harry and Markle’s personal documentary series, which has been full of sensational claims about the royal family and the couple’s departure from royal life.
Live to lead Premieres on Netflix December 31st.
