Netflix documentary series on Killie Sally about the m*rder of husband Ray by Sally McNeil

A new Netflix documentary reveals why a bodybuilder couple’s marriage ended in brutal m*rder nearly 30 years ago.

Three-episode documentary series Killer Sallyset to premiere on November 9, it follows the fatal shooting of bodybuilding champion Ray McNeal by his wife Sally on Valentine’s Day 1995.

Sally, a champion in her own right after winning the US Armed Forces Physique Championship in the 1980s, claimed her husband had abused her for years prior to the shooting.

She remains behind bars.

“Sally claimed it was self-defense, a split decision to save her life,” reads the synopsis for Sally’s Killer. “The prosecution argued that it was a premeditated m*rder, the revenge of a jealous and aggressive wife. They called her “thug”, “hooligan” and “monster”.

“The media called her a “muscular bride” and a “muscled princess.” Sally says she spent her life doing her best to survive, caught in a vicious cycle of violence that began as a child and ended with Ray’s d*ath.”

The couple first met when Ray was in the US Marine Corps and shared a passion for bodybuilding and fitness.

“He looked like a statue of David. He was great,” Sally said in the Netflix trailer. “Lust at first sight.”

They married in 1987, however, the union was reportedly filled with constant quarrels.

Sally continued her career in professional wrestling, helping Ray leave the Marines and begin his full-time bodybuilding career.

Sally was involved in “muscle worship” which includes recorded sessions in which she was paid to wrestle men on the ground.

“If I fought 10 of them, it would be $3,000,” Sally said.

The happiness did not last long, and the marriage again became unstable, including one incident in 1994 when Sally ran into one of Ray’s lovers.

Sally shot Ray twice with a shotgun, once in the stomach and then in the head.

She immediately called 911 and claimed that she had killed him in self-defense and that he had beaten her.

A snippet of the 911 call was shown in the trailer, where Sally said, “I just shot my husband because he just beat me up.”

In a new documentary series, Sally’s kids have confirmed their mother’s heartbreaking story, including her son who revealed the haunting details of Ray’s alleged abuse.

“I remember how excruciating it was to sit and watch him abuse my sister and know I was next,” he said in the trailer.

However, during the investigation, it turned out that both Sally and Ray used steroids, and that is how the name “road rage m*rder” was coined.

“I have the right to defend myself,” Sally said in the trailer. “I couldn’t take it anymore. I didn’t want to die.”

The prosecution argued that the m*rder was premeditated, and Sally was found guilty of second-degree m*rder in 1996.

She was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison. She is serving her sentence at the Central California Women’s Institution in Chowchilla, California.
