When the original poster (OP) was about 10 years old, her mother met and eventually married Gary. The 16-year-old cites the incident as the moment her relationship with him began to falter.

In the comments, people reassured the teenager that her feelings were valid and that some of the examples of abuse she had experienced were horrifying. They were really mad at OP’s mom for not standing up for her daughter and at Gary for being a crappy stepdad.
