Iconic look. Meghan Marklewedding dress stunned the world when she said yes Prince Harry.
The couple, who announced their engagement in November 2017, married in May 2018 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. And it was her idea to make wild flowers, which I think turned out to be a really great way to embody that feeling.”
Craftsman Givenchy spent over 500 hours embroidering the 16-foot veil with plants from all over the Commonwealth. In addition, flowers from California and Kensington Palace were included as a tribute to Meghan’s birthplace and her new home.
“Given Harry’s role as a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, it was very important to us that our wedding had an inclusive spirit,” Meghan added.
Waight Keller said she and co-founder Archewell had a very “collaborative” relationship when designing the wedding dress. “We exchanged conversations about what the final lines, proportions and size of the dress would be,” the Givenchy boss said shortly after the wedding. “But over time, we quickly got to the point where I know she really felt like she knew exactly what she wanted… And then that turned into the final design.”
The stylist was delighted with the final look, which took over 3,900 hours to complete. “She just glowed,” Waight Keller said of the moment the California native saw herself in the finished dress. “There are so many emotions on a day like this, but I think especially when it all comes together, it’s amazing. She was absolutely radiant.”
She wasn’t the only one who thought so. “I am honored to work closely with Meghan and live by her side through all these special moments,” Waight Keller told the French news agency. paris match in 2018. “Prince Harry came up to me and said, ‘Oh my God. The detail included a 16-foot-long silk veil that featured intricate embroidery depicting the colors of each of the 53 Commonwealth countries. Two additional flowers – a winter-loving one that grows on the grounds of Kensington Palace, and a California poppy – were added as a token of respect to Meghan’s new home and birthplace.

After changing into a Givenchy dress, Meghan went to the reception in a halter Stella McCartney gown. The white dress made it much easier to move around, which was important to Meghan. “I just really wanted the music to be fun,” the former actress explained in her 2022 Netflix documentary series. Harry and Megan revealing that their first dance was to Wilson Pickett’s 1966 hit “Land of 1000 Dances”.
