According to royal biographers, Meghan Markle shocked members of the royal family with her gift to Prince William.
According to the royal biography In Search of Freedom, Meghan didn’t know what to give her future son-in-law Prince William, so she opted for a prank gift.
Megan gave her son-in-law a spoon that had the word “cereal killer” engraved on it.
Authors Carolyn Duran and Omid Scobie wrote, “Meghan’s biggest challenge was finding the perfect original gifts to entertain her new extended family.
“At least one of her gifts was a huge success – a spoon for William with ‘cereal killer’ embossed on the shallow end of the dish.”
Meghan also impressed the late Queen Elizabeth II during her first Christmas with the royals when she gave her a singing hamster on a string, which the royal corgis loved.
The book Finding Freedom also revealed that the Duke of Sussex once gave Her Majesty a shower cap that had the phrase “Life ain’t a f***h” printed on it.
It is a long-standing Christmas tradition in the royal family to give gifts to each other.
Kate Middleton reportedly gave Prince Harry a grow kit for his own girlfriend before he met Meghan in 2016.
“On another occasion, he gave his grandmother a Big Mouth Billy Bass singing toy that was said to sit proudly in Balmoral, her Scottish retreat, and give the Queen a lot of laughs,” the book says.
His brother chose the safer option and handed Grandma a pair of slippers with her face on them.
Five years ago, the Queen broke with tradition when she invited Meghan to spend Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham – just a month after their engagement was announced.
Prior to this, the other halves were only allowed to attend a friendly celebration after the wedding – as is the case with Kate Middleton.
One Christmas, King Charles received a leather toilet seat from his sister, Princess Anne.
She also bought her father, the late Prince Philip, a torch-equipped pepper grinder so he could spice up food at family barbecues after sunset.
However, this year’s festivities may generate fewer laughs in the royal family.
Harry and Meghan have no intention of joining the royal family in their Christmas plans this year, despite King Charles holding out an olive branch last month.
Royal Biographer Angela Levine told The Sun: “The Queen’s death means there won’t be as much pressure to have the whole family together – which is a good thing because it seems like Harry and Meghan won’t be in attendance.
“I am sure that Catherine and William will be close to the king and queen during part of the holiday.
“Harry and Meghan will not be coming, which I think will be a huge relief for the rest of the family.
“The family will want to make this a very positive day after the Queen’s death and I think the presence of Sussex will certainly dampen that.”
The main reason for the absence of Harry and Meghan is the reaction to their documentary series on Netflix.
