Lorraine Toussaint talks about a hilarious moment on set while filming the TikTok scene for The Equalizer

In “True Believer” Season 1 Episode 9 from The Equalizer, Delilah still doesn’t know what her mother Robin does for a living. When Delilah asks Robin to help her make dance video on tiktok, Robin worries about exposing her and her family’s anonymity to enemies. By the end of this penultimate episode of the first season, they agree to a compromise video.

As the mother of her 16-year-old daughter, Lorraine Toussaint added real-life inspiration to the recording. “At some point I started kind of spontaneous twerk and it was like, oh no no no don’t do that, oh my god, fu, fu,” Toussaint said. Talk. “No one wants to see their grandma twerking.” She further added, “I really feel like my daughter would have the exact same answer.”

Toussaint cites this as an example of how she and the actors can be involved in the production of the show. “There are moments in the show where I can tell the director or the producers, you know, that would require a roll of your eyes,” she said. This element of respect is shown both in the on-screen family and among the actors. “They love each other, but it just so happens that they love each other,” Toussaint said.
