Turns green! Princess Kate as well as Prince William attracted attention—and honored the Earth-friendly theme—at the 2022 Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston on Friday, December 2.
At the party at the MGM Music Hall, 40-year-old Kate shone in a bright green off-the-shoulder dress from Solace London. The princess has chosen to rent the dress from British platform HURR as per the event’s request that all guests try not to buy new outfits to attend.
Kate completed her look with an emerald and diamond necklace that belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
William, 40, for his part, decided to wear a blue velvet blazer that was already in his wardrobe.
The royal couple along with Rami Malek, Katherine O’Hara as well as Shailene Woodley, will present the Earthshot Award, which honors five people who have worked to address climate change and have made a major contribution to protecting the environment. BBC radio Clara Ampho is the host of the evening.
William, along with David Attenborough, launched Earthshot in 2020 with the goal of finding effective ways to combat climate change. The organization’s name was inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “Moon Shot” that launched space exploration in the 1960s. For the Boston Awards, the late politician John F. Kennedy Library Foundation is the host partner along with Mayor Michelle Wu.
In addition to Kate and William’s performance, Friday’s celebration will feature Billie Eilish, Finneas, Annie Lennox, Chloe x Galle as well as Ellie Goulding.
The future king announced his trip to Boston in July via Twitter, sharing, “In 2022, we will be back and bringing Earthshot to the US where we will award the next five winners.” The accompanying video showed William standing next to a Boston Red Sox player. Xander Bogaertswho added, “And we’ll be doing it right here in Boston.”
After arriving in Massachusetts on Wednesday, November 30 for his and Kate’s first US trip in eight years, William praised Governor Charlie Baker and his wife, the first lady Lauren Bakerfor a warm welcome.
“Catherine and I are delighted to be back in the United States and extremely grateful to Governor Baker and the First Lady of Massachusetts,” William tweeted. “On our first overseas visit since my grandmother’s d*ath, I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts and especially Boston for their tribute to the late Queen. She recalled with great fondness her bicentenary visit in 1976.”
Prior to the Earthshot Prize, Kate and William met with Mayor Wu on Wednesday and watched the Boston Celtics take on the Miami Heat later that night. On both occasions, Kate was a must-see. She wore a plaid Burberry dress for the major and a vintage Chanel jacket for the sporting event.
