As one of Britain’s most eligible bachelors, Ollie Merce lasted as long as anyone reasonably could, but his proposal to girlfriend Amelia Tank didn’t go as smoothly as expected.
“I got down on one knee – the only slightly embarrassing issue was that she had to help me get up after my recent knee surgery,” says Ollie.
“Fortunately, she still said yes, we are very happy.”
Ollie and Amelia – a successful bodybuilder and personal trainer – have been dating for about three years, and the star jokes that he had planned to propose for a long time, but wanted to do it in his spare time.
Joining us at Bizarre headquarters this afternoon ahead of the first single from his long-awaited new album, which is amazing radio pop, he explains: “We want to get married next summer. It’s complicated because we got engaged in June, so we only have a year to sort things out.
She is quite impulsive.
“But it was the right time, it was perfect. Everything about me and Amelia is perfect, so it was just a question, how can we make it even better?”
Laughing, the singer refuses to say how much he spent on the ring, but admits: “It was expensive. I have never owned jewelry in my life.
“But it wasn’t about the money. I wanted her to have the ring she wanted, well the ring I think she wanted and I got it right, thank God. . . but she got better.
“Something must have popped up on her Instagram feed and she said, ‘This is a ring. I will show you this once and only once. It was one night we watched Bake Off and now it’s the most important moment of my life.
“I took a screenshot, remembered and, fortunately, eventually found it. Since then, we have never talked about it, it’s strange.
“But I always told Amelia – because we watch all these shows about dating, Love Is Blind, Married at First Sight, Love Island, Amelia is obsessed with them – that the only thing I ask is to propose to you. . I know what Amelia is. She is quite impulsive. Otherwise, she would have just proposed to me.
“So I waited and I knew that this would be the time we leave with her family.
“We were at the top of a cliff on the south coast, there were a lot of relatives there, her brother took some pictures and I fell on one knee.
“Fortunately, I didn’t start rolling because she wouldn’t be able to catch me.”
And his return to the world of pop after a long hiatus will be Amelia’s first chance to see Ollie doing what he does best.
He explains: “I also want to show Amelia what I do.
I feel so content
“For the last three years, it was just the two of us in the house, I, with two knee surgeries, ate too much. I need to try and show her that she’s getting married to someone who has a successful career.
“She’s seen me on TV and the signs on the walls, but I want to show her what I’m good at. This is my first chance.
Of his album Marry Me, which came out in December, he said: “I didn’t know how fun it would be to write a bit about me and Amelia – it’s not all about us, but there’s an element of Amelia in everyone. a song that I can relate to and she can relate to.
“It’s great that there is a moment in my life when I feel so content at home and so happy.
“Things are going great, at least until you start talking about wedding plans, which is stressful as hell. But now I’m back at work and have nothing to worry about at home. It’s so well done and beautiful.
“For the first time in ten years I saw you guys at Kristen Bell Tattoos and I felt completely at ease. I used to be bothered by rumors on the street. Now I’m with Amelia, I’m so arranged and so in love.
Tour with Tom on TV Wish List
AFTER sitting next to Sir Tom Jones as coach on The Voice for the last five episodes, Ollie is campaigning for them to put on their own travel show together.
Troublemaker’s lead singer thinks they could be a comedy guy like Bradley Walsh and his son Barney on the ITV show Breaking Dad.
Ollie, sitting upstairs with Sir Tom, said, “He’s the best man, and for that matter, I’m like his annoying little grandson. This friendship between us is great. I would like to do more with Tom.
“I would like to try doing one of those travel shows with him or something like that. Tom and I traveling together in a camper would be fun.
“I would love to show Tom the different places in the world he’s been to, like going back to Vegas and hearing stories about him there because he has so many great stories.”
Correctly said that Fred is so wrong, says Beyoncé
BEYONCE lashed out at trashy pop duo Right Said Fred after they claimed in Bizarre that she robbed them.
They branded her “arrogant” because they claimed she didn’t ask permission to use their 1991 hit I’m Too S*xy on her song Alien Superstar, which was featured on her No. 1 Renaissance album.
But in a rare rebuttal, the superstar hit back by saying that not only did she ask permission, she got paid for her contribution.
Bey’s team said in a statement: “Permission has not only been given for its use, but (Right Said Fred) has publicly expressed his gratitude for being a part of the album. No sound recording was used for their song, only composition was used.
“Permission was requested from their publisher on May 11, 2022, and the publisher approved use on June 15, 2022. They were paid to use it in August.”
It sounds like they should double-check their bank balance before they strike.
