‘House of the Dragon’ star Emma D’Arcy struggled to film Rainier’s birth scene in Episode 10

In an interview with Hollywood ReporterEmma D’Arcy spoke about the mood during Princess Rainier’s bloody birth scene in The Black Queen. D’Arcy not only called the scene physically challenging, but also explained that they were trying to uncover various truths about their character.

“I think in that birth scene, I had the feeling that for a character who had such a complicated relationship with how her gender allows her to relate to the world, it’s like she’s suddenly given the choice of being a king or being a mother. or maybe neither, or maybe both,” said D’Arcy. “Trying to tell a storyline while also doing something physically demanding… it’s just hard and you don’t know if it will work until you see it on screen.”

D’Arcy also mentioned that it was difficult to portray a major second birth after she had already experienced a particularly memorable one in her first appearance on the series. The actor suggested that it was important to differentiate the approach to both genders. However, judging by the reaction of the fans to the birth of the child, D’Arcy clearly succeeded. However, Princess Rainier will most likely not focus on having children after the House of the Dragon season 1 finale, in which she appears to be solely set on revenge for the death of her son Luke. In fact, this mission may be more important to her than being a king or a mother.
