Elon Musk was dr*wned out in cheers when he joined Dave Chappelle on stage at a concert in San Francisco, and on Monday laughed at the cries of the “deranged left” he had recently “insulted.”
Musk, 51, made a surprise appearance at the Chase Center late Sunday after Chappelle asked his audience to “make a fuss in honor of the richest man in the world,” a title Tesla boss and Twitter owner had just reclaimed. New York Post reports.
Wearing an “I love Twitter” T-shirt, Musk raised his hands in apparent confusion as Chappelle noticed the loud “cheers and cheers.”
As the hostility grew louder, Musk told the comedian, “You didn’t expect this, did you?”
“Looks like some of the people you fired are in the audience,” Chappelle, 49, joked about Musk’s brutal m*rders just a few miles from Twitter’s Silicon Valley headquarters.
Chappelle, who has resisted his own backlash against jokes about the transgender community, joked that “all those booing people have… horrible places.”
“Listen, motherf*cker – this n-er doesn’t even try to die on Earth,” Chappelle joked about Musk and his dreams of resettling people on Mars.
“His whole business model is ‘Fuck the Earth, I’m leaving anyway,'” Chappelle said, pretending the guest offered him “the first comedy club on Mars.”
“You n-ers can boo all you want – that n-er gave me a jetpack last Christmas,” the comedian joked, getting a rare burst of laughter since Musk was on stage.
During his brief appearance, Musk even survived Chappelle’s infamous Rick James parody by yelling at an already disgruntled crowd, “I’m rich, bitch!”
Musk tweeted Monday explicitly acknowledged the hostile reaction from some in the crowd, while noting that there was support.
“Technically it was 90% applause and 10% booing (except for quiet periods), but still, it’s a lot of booing, which is a first for me in real life,” he wrote, noting that such an insult is “often.” on Twitter.”
“It’s like I’m insulting the crazy SF leftists… but nope,” he added sarcastically.
Chappelle went even further during the show, comparing the violence to the anger that led Antifa to riot.
Do you hear that sound, Elon? This is the sound of impending civil unrest. I can’t wait to see which store you destroy next, you bastard,” he said, urging protesters to “shut the f*ck up with your snot.”
Footage of the awkward appearance soon made Musk go viral on his own $44 billion ($64.2 billion) social media platform.
Reporter Alejandra Caraballo used one of Musk’s own favorite phrases to sum up the night: “He screwed up and figured it out quickly.”
“Even Chappelle’s transphobic fans don’t like this jerk,” she wrote of the Twitter boss.
Meanwhile, Tyler Conway of The Bleacher Report said that “an inadvertent booing of this weird nerd Elon by 20,000 people may be the funniest thing” Chappelle has “ever done”.
Journalism professor Christian Christensen summed it up this way: “Comedy is confusing and the crowd is like, ‘Fuck you.’ Good.”
