As a longtime comic book fan, Skrein enjoyed the opportunity to star in a comic book film. “I was like, ‘At first, I can’t believe anyone would even ask me to do a Marvel movie,'” Skrein recalled. “I’ve been a comic book fan since I was 10 years old, going to comic book fairs and I have a crazy collection and my ninja turtles and Mumm-Ra figures and all that. That they even let me in was amazing.”
Skrein also reveled in the unique opportunity that comes with being in a rare comic book film that claims an R rating: “Secondly, [I couldn’t believe] they let me say all these crazy things and do all these crazy things. I thought, “This is not like the movies I’ve seen so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” It was amazing.”
While Skrein really enjoyed working on Deadpool, he said he also learned a lot from watching Reynolds backstage. “Ryan taught me a lot about how to lead a set with grace, humility and manners, like a true gentleman and a generous actor,” Skrein shared. “Even from where he was in his career and where I was in my career, he was a man and led by example, showing how an actor should lead a film.”
Skrein’s new film “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon” is available in theaters, digitally and on demand.
