It, published in 1986, was first adapted into a TV movie in 1990. It lay dormant for nearly two decades until it was revived in 2017 for a big screen adaptation. But those who think that Pennywise and Art are similar are only looking at the surface. In fact, there are quite a few differences between them.
Clown Art has become the new horror icon, and there are already controversies comparing it to Pennywise from It. One website even boldly declared that Art is the scariest clown of the two. As Screenshot writes, “Pennywise is certainly a notorious villain, but Art the clown has an advantage…Art is a human serial killer, unlike Pennywise… [and] while Pennywise is joking, he is rarely, if ever, funny. In art, the audience genuinely laughs at some moments, and then commits a quick and shocking m*rder.”
As Leone said Terrible center, he tried his best to create the opposite of Pennywise. “Art is bald, he’s black and white. Pennywise is multi-colored, he has hair. Pennywise talks, but Art doesn’t. Pennywise doesn’t use weapons, Clown Art uses any weapon he can get his hands on, so all those little things fit together.”
