The plea comes about 1 1/2 months after a judge denied the defense’s request for a diversion program that would have led to charges against Lee being dismissed in connection with an unrelated case. He remains behind bars as charged. Stabbing his roommate in a transitional housing facility last year.

It was on May 3 while Chappelle was on stage performing a show for the Netflix Is a Joke Festival when Lee stormed onto the stage and threw the comedian to the ground. Security moved quickly and the suspect was subdued and arrested by the LAPD. Chappelle was not injured and continued with his show that night.

“As sad and disturbing as the incident was, Chappelle continued the show,” read a statement from Chappelle the next day. “Jamie Fox* and Chris Rock helped calm the crowd with comedy before Chappelle introduced the final and featured musical guests for the evening.”

Chappell would later say that he was able to talk to the att*cker before he was taken to paramedics. The comedian alleged that Lee told her that he had committed the att*ck to raise awareness about the plight of his grandmother in Brooklyn who had been displaced from her home due to gentrification.

However, Lee gave an interview from inside the prison where he said he was moved by Chappelle’s jokes about transgender and homeless people.

Lee will appear in court again on January 19 in connection with the case in which he is accused of trying to kill his former roommate.
