CHERYL spent years lamely pretending to actually like bandmate Nadine Coyle – let’s hope her game has improved since then.
The former Girls Aloud singer-turned-X Factor judge-turned-hair extension-turned-virtually-unemployed model was unveiled yesterday as the latest “actress” to play Jenny, the leading lady of the West End show 2:22 Ghost Story.
By joining the cast, she is following in the footsteps of theater luminaries such as the sullen Lily Allen, the even sulkier Laura Whitmore and James Buckley, aka Jay of The Inbetweeners.
I’m not sure if this is for theater purists.
However, it will be nice to see Cheryl back on stage after becoming a relative recluse in recent years – at least in the sense that the last TV show she was on, The Greatest Dancer, flopped and was canceled. in 2020 and her latest single charted at number 57 in 2019, so don’t be embarrassed if you missed it.
You probably don’t remember, but it was called Let You, by the way.
Announcing her news yesterday, Cheryl said: “I’m so excited to be starring in the West End thriller 2:22: A Ghost Story.” I will play the role of Jenny from January to April!
“I went to the show with the previous lineup and I LOVED IT!
“For me, this is a completely new and exciting experience, so if you want to have a fun evening and have fun in the new year, tickets are already available. . .when you’re ready.”
Keep in mind that it is unlikely that she will call the fading star Lily for advice – the couple exchanged insults almost all zero.
In this role, Cheryl’s character lives in a new house that she believes is haunted – presumably because of the really horrifying ghostly memories of X Factor USA, the Easilocks, and her marriage to former football player Ashley Cole.
But just in case there’s too much going on in the new installment, there’s always a perfect replacement after Madame Tussauds in London decided to remove poor Chazza’s wax figure from its exhibits.
I’m sure it still looks the part – and will probably be less wooden. . .
Shania on fire
SHANIA TWAIN showed why she won the Music Icon Gong at yesterday’s People’s Choice Awards by changing four colorful costumes.
When she appeared, she showed off her look from the 1998 music video That Don’t Impress Me Much with a leopard-print hooded shawl and a matching bra.
She then stole the show with an epic medley of her biggest hits Any Man Of Mine, That Don’t Impress Me Much, Waking Up Dreaming and the karaoke classic Man I Feel Like A Woman.
Her look saw her transition from a red PVC jacket and boyfriends to a sequined nude bodysuit and red leather cowgirl outfit.
After receiving the award in Santa Monica, California, she told the audience from the list of the best: “I always want to inspire people with my music.”
Shania hasn’t performed live here in five years, but I’m sure she will inspire – and impress – when she brings her Queen Of Me tour to the UK next September.
Lucy’s love for her X
SHE was one of the most memorable contestants on The X Factor, and ten years after she landed on the show, Lucy Spraggan wants her back.
The singer-songwriter has just announced a new album, Balance, and memoir Process, due out next year, and has signed a songwriting deal with former boss Simon Cowell’s publishing company.
Now that she’s friends with the talent show judge again, she believes she can take part in the relaunch of the singing competition.
In an exclusive chat, she told me: “I really think working class people and northerners don’t have as many opportunities as Londoners. I never would have gotten my chance if I hadn’t gone to The X Factor.
“By getting closer to Simon, I’m in a better position to make this show safer for the participants’ mental health and provide them with follow-up care.”
However, Lucy admitted that her book, which came out in July, would be a huge b*mb about her experience during the show in 2012.
She said: “There are things that I have waited a very long time to say and I needed to get myself to the point where I really felt strong enough to do it.
“Now that I don’t drink or do dr*gs and can control myself, I feel like I’m really ready.”
ROCHE BOY PROBLEM
Rochelle Humes has revealed how she had to keep her relationship with JLS’s Marvin a secret from The Saturdays bosses for fear of getting pushed.
She recalled the label’s meeting after they formed in 2008: “We really bonded. We didn’t launch overnight, we didn’t have the backing of The X Factor, we had to use every shady club along the way to make any noise.
We just got to a really good point and they said, “It’s very hard to get girls to like other girls, and it doesn’t have to be threatening.” Everything is going really well, the worst thing you can do right now is date someone from a boy band.”
On the My Love Is podcast, she explained, “I remember thinking, ‘Will I get fired?’
Big year for little Sims
LITTLE SIMZ ended a stellar 2022 with the announcement of a new album.
The British singer revealed on social media that the album would be titled No Thank You, but did not give a release date. She wrote: “Emotion is energy in motion. Respect your truth and feelings. Eradicate fear. Boundaries are important.”
She won the Brit Award for Best New Artist in February, the Mercury Award in October, and the Mobos Album of the Year Award last week for 2021’s ‘I Can Be an Introvert Sometimes’. Expect big things.
Robbie’s Pill Fears
AIDA FIELD is so worried that her husband, Robbie Williams, will start abusing dr*gs again, that he locks painkillers at home.
The singer has been clean for two decades but told the On The Edge podcast: “There’s always something lurking around the corner and I still can’t be trusted with pills.
“The wife should put them on the lock and key… They can be there for 18 months, every single day. Vicodin, whatever, every day, see them, go to bed. not to be happy or not to feel vulnerable, whatever—these pills are all gone.”
A lot of talent
MIMI WEBB and Raye looked absolutely perfect when they visited the Big Bash National Lottery last night on New Year’s Eve.
Both singers opted for see-through outfits at a VIP event at the OVO Arena in Wembley.
Hosted by Jason Manford and Alyosha Dixon, the evening featured one of my favorite singers of 2022, Tom Grennan, as well as chart-topping DJ Joel Corry and singer Katherine Jenkins.
