Prince Harry has been candid about how fatherhood has changed his outlook on life ever since he met son Archie and daughter Lilibet. Meghan Markleand now his kids are teaching him a thing or two about his dynamic with his brother Prince William.
“The breakup between me and William was very similar to Archie and Lily,” the 38-year-old prince explained in an interview with ITV on Sunday 8 January, referring to his 3-year-old son and 19-month-old daughter. . “And seeing Lily obsessing over Archie and Archie, like, ‘No, no, Lily, I need some space. I need my space now. I understand. … I understand how a younger brother can annoy an older brother.”
Harry details his ups and downs with William, now 40, in a new memoir. Spareon Tuesday, January 10, starting with their childhood fights and how they have dealt with the death of their mother, Princess Diana, in different ways.
“But at that moment, I really didn’t understand it. I didn’t really realize it,” Harry continued on Sunday. “But yes, I have always loved my brother. And I think it might shock or surprise people that after our mother died, we went our separate ways. Right? Two people who went through a very similar traumatic experience but dealt with it in two very different ways.”
Harry and William were 12 and 15 respectively when Diana died in 1997. Sparea former military pilot writes about how his older brother distanced himself from his brother when they were in high school.
“I couldn’t understand it,” said Harry. Anderson Cooper in 60 minutes the interview, which also aired on Sunday. “I thought, ‘What do you mean? We are in the same school now. Like, I haven’t seen you in ages, now we can hang out together.” He’s like, “No, no, no, when we’re at school, we don’t know each other.” And I took it personally.”
The two siblings have been at odds for years, and Harry’s recent confessions on his Netflix series, Harry and Meganand in his book – the Duke of Sussex also details a physical fight with the Duke of Cambridge and arguments over Harry and Meghan’s departure from the royal family – don’t help matters, according to sources.
“My brother and I love each other. I love him deeply. There’s been a lot of pain between the two of us, especially in the last six years,” Harry told Cooper, denying that he meant “cutting himself” when writing about William’s hair loss in the book. “Nothing that I wrote – everything that I included was never meant to harm my family. But it gives a complete picture of the situation when we were growing up, and also debunks the idea that my wife somehow ruined the relationship between these two brothers.”
Harry, however, claims that he is not trying to harm his family and hopes there will be peace in the future.
“The ball is pretty much on their side, but, you know, Megan and I kept saying that we will openly apologize for everything we did wrong, but every time we ask this question, no one tells us the details or what something else. . There needs to be a constructive conversation that can take place in private and not leak,” Harry said on Sunday. “It all started with them daily briefings against my wife with lies to the point that my wife and I had to flee my country.”
