Alexandra Burke reveals why she cut her maternity leave to return to work eight weeks after giving birth

Alexandra Burke said she cut short her planned three-month maternity leave and returned to work eight weeks after giving birth.

The pop star welcomed her first child into the world in July with her fiancé, West Ham goalkeeper Darren Rudolph, 35.

Pop star Alexandra Burke has teamed up with myFUGIFILM for their Million Moments competition.

Alexandra, 34, previously said she took a three-month break from her busy career as a singer and actress.

But in an exclusive interview, Alexandra, who chose not to reveal her baby’s gender, revealed she decided to return two months later to find herself again.

Alexandra said: “I returned to work two months after giving birth.

“It was difficult, but beautiful. It was nice to feel on stage again.

“Many mothers tell me that after giving birth it is difficult to feel like myself again, and I understand this very well.

“It helped me feel like myself again.

“I can’t sit still, that’s my problem.”

Former X Factor winner Alexandra also said the exercise helped her get back to feeling better.

The Broken Heels vocalist added, “I do cardio on an empty stomach.

“You have to work out for at least 20 minutes and it helps all kinds of body health – and I am also trying to get back in shape.

“Last week we left for our first family holiday, and let me tell you, I ate like it was out of style.

“Any food that came my way, I said, ‘Give me this. And I was never usually like that.

“I have a mission to return to good health. Not necessarily to lose weight, but just to feel good again.”

Alexandra, who is currently rehearsing for a show at the London Palladium, has partnered with MyFUJIFILM. Million Moments Contest.

The campaign encourages participants to share their imperfect moments on social media — Alexandra said she fully supports this.

Alexandra explained: “I’ll be honest with you – it’s my fault that I took several photos to get the perfect one.

“You look at social networks and think, where is the truth and where is the reality?

“Now I’m a mom, I live in the moment, and I don’t care about the perfect picture, it’s always beautiful, in my opinion.

“The campaign is special because we have to take pictures and live in the moment.

“They say it takes nine tries to get the photo you post, but I think that’s more.

“There would be so many photos in my film roll of me doing the same thing, trying to get the right shot, and I don’t think it’s great.

“There’s nothing wrong with someone wanting to use an editing app, but I personally don’t. You may meet some people and they don’t look like the picture.

“Becoming a mom, I want to encourage the younger generation to live in the moment and not dwell on how they look.”

Alexandra also talked about partying with Jerry Horner on her stellar 50th birthday last month.

Jeri and Alex are ambassadors for the Royal Commonwealth Society and are strong friends.

Alexandra said: “Jeri is one of the kindest people I have ever met and she holds a special place in my heart.

“It was very beautiful to see the girls together at her party.

“I was a fan of the Spice Girls from a young age, so my younger self couldn’t believe she was in a room with all of them.

“Everyone had a great time, it was a special night – Jeri is so loved.”
