Sandler described the lack of injury in an interview with Diversity, which he did with his Hollowheads co-star Brendan Fraser. In the scene, the lone rangers jump from the parking lot. To do this, Frazier, Sandler and Steve Buscemi had to climb from a height of about 15 feet onto a soft mat. According to Sandler, while Frazier and Buscemi did a great job with the jump, it was a different story for him. As Sandler landed, his neck snapped back with a loud crack.
“It was terrible. I’ve never been a gymnast,” Sandler said. “As a child, I went to the trampoline at the Jewish Community Center and saw how everyone else did well on it. The same thing happened to my neck when I was 9 years old. I can’t jump and land on my back. I have to stop.”
Fortunately, Sandler escaped injury. However, that wasn’t the case when Sandler starred in the 2022 drama The Hustle, in which he plays an abandoned basketball scout. Sandler and the cast were playing basketball during filming, but Sandler pulled a groin muscle. A year later, he was still recovering (according to ET). Of course, Sandler was 28 when Emptyheads came out and 56 when Hustle came out, so it’s not quite the same thing.
