Idk if this is considered basic knowledge but it’s really good to know:
If your car gets stuck in snow, take out floor mats and stick them under your tires, as far as you want to go (so the tires can drive over them). This helps give you some traction. You can reuse this technique as needed, just park, get out, and move the floor mats to the front/back right side of your tires.
It annoys me when I watch TV shows where the characters get stuck and can’t get out of the snow, when their car clearly has floor mats. It’s come to my attention in the last couple of years that a lot of people don’t know this, so now I try to bring it up whenever it comes up remotely in a forum.
Also, keep emergency supplies in your vehicle. Jumper cables, a flashlight and batteries (store them separately because of corrosion), food/water, gloves, winter boots if applicable where you are, etc. Also, check out the Mythbusters underwater car episode, good to know 🙂
