While everyone involved in 8 Simple Rules felt strongly about Ritter’s departure, it may have affected Kaley Cuoco more than anyone else. She previously spoke about how Ritter was something of a mentor to her during his time on the show. After all, the series was her first major TV role and eventually led to her rise to prominence and become a household name on The Big Bang Theory. Cuoco has spoken many times about her attachment to Ritter and how they developed a close bond (via Yahoo).

In an interview with Entertainment tonight Cuoco revealed the last words Ritter said to her before he died. Realizing that he was unwell, she went to him, and he took her aside. Explaining how the situation unfolded, she said, “He sat on the couch and said, ‘I love you,’ and I’m like, ‘I love you too, stupid man.’ He says, “No, I want you to know I love you.” And I said, “I love you too.” And he says: “Everything!” And he hugged me… and that was the last time I saw him.”
